Oil companies have pushed many native people out of the forest by buying their land for only a few dollars, taking whatever they want, then leaving behind complete devastation and life-threatening diseases. This destroys the health and spirit of the people, the habitat of endangered species and eliminates plants that were potential cures for many diseases. Seventy percent of our pharmaceuticals are plant-based.

Billions of gallons of toxic wastewater have already been dumped into the Ecuadorian Amazon. Corporations that do such things have no regard for the past or the future, only their pockets. It is up to us to care about the next seven generations and what kind of world we will leave to them. Respecting the forest gives us a bounty that will last infinitely if we do not abuse it.

The Amazon rainforest is one of the world's most fragile and environmentally diverse ecosystems. The Shuar hold the key to natural healing and sustainable living. We believe this is worth protecting. Already our small group has been making a positive difference. Imagine how much we could do if more people joined us!
